Narcissus flowers are toxic to animals and people?

The narcissus flower include natural substances that may be harmful if ingested by pets or humans. The bulbs are particularly toxic and can lead to nausea, vomiting, stomach pain or skin irritation if manipulated too much. The bulbs are most dangerous when they are dug up by dogs and cats and chewed on in gardens. This toxicity should be considered when choosing a location for Narcissus plantings, so that children and curious pets do not get too close. However, the flowers are still quite popular, in part because they do not attract deer, rabbits, or rodents, so garden beds have a natural defense against animal damage.
